Pretend it's 2006

It's Day 3 of Worlds. If you're a top American team and you've brought most of your guys, you've just played four 19-5 games and one 19-11 game, probably been shocked to hear what Australian people do with animals, and have finally figured out what happened to that day you gained or lost when you crossed the International Date Line.

How do you feel? Are you ready to continue playing? Have your bruises healed from Nationals two weeks ago? And how was it practicing and doing a track workout the week after Nationals?

So is this your way of saying you're not going?

I don't think that I'm going, but no, this is not my way of saying I'm going. I want people to think about it ahead of time so they can make good decisions. In six months, they're not going to remember whether they would have been able to go out and play right away.

My body is healed but I'm already a few pounds heavier and in worse shape.

5 games into Worlds and we're feeling great. 2 games a day, we could get used to this, good on ya.

Most importantly, we're feeling pretty happy with ourselves for the brilliant fundraising idea we had back in August. We held an auction where other teams got the right to bid to have their entire squad added to our roster. The 6th place finisher in our region from '05 won the auction, bidding $1,699.01. We let the WBs (Winning Bidders) play sectionals for us (a meaningless tournament) while the RPs (Real Players) went to both Labor Day and Tune Up to get ready for Worlds. The RPs then played at regionals (passable competition) while the WBs served as our sideline lackeys and indentured cheering section.

Of course, we earned our bid to nationals again, which meant the WBs had to pay us the $1,699.01. For this $1,699.01 they got to go to Sarasota under our name. Killed our region's chance at a strength wildcard and our RRI, but we're good enough we don't care about the '07 wildcards. Us RPs stayed home and saved our money and energy for Oz.

Bloody brilliant.

$1609.01 buys a lot of Oz beer and helps fund our Perth beach condos. Siesta Key is so '05.

what the hell. i could have sworn i posted this...

now i've got to trust to memory. see alex's blog for weaknesses of that.

ok, serious first, you come up w/ a plan, like, 4 light practices just to catch and throw with the team, but count on no one showing up, because they have to get their act together before the big trip... so just try not to totally couch up...

other thoughts... i looked. the weather in winter in australia is mid 60's. So why didn't we schedule it during our summer? Couldn't be much different than Scotland, except for the sharks. I realize that Australians play indoors when it gets below 85, but i mean whatever....

also, kudos for noting that australians do whatever it is they do WITH animals not to them.

as long as there is mutual respect, and it's between adults...

durn that math in computing the human age of a koala. oh well. thank god for the metric system.

The Aussies said that the weather in Perth in August is really crappy, and it gets much much better even a month later, but September would be incompatible with UPAs, unless the UPA gave all Worlds attendees a bye past at least the first round.

btw, there is more than one "weather in Australia". It's about the same size as the continental US.

Speaking of bestiality, I remember a shock jock about 15 years ago talking with a male guest about doing it with dogs.
Q. So, are these female dogs or male dogs?
A. Female dogs! What, you think I'm some kind of pervert?

well since your U T & T blog site doesn't allow outsiders to comment (!), and cooke's doesn't either, i'll post my question here regarding the 2 handler set. next time i'll post on it on the PuPs if your not careful....

How well does the two handler set work with a 1-3-3 defense? Or do you go to a 3 handler set with that type of defense? It seems that since there are 4 defenders close to the disc now, that the 3 handler set would be better.

Hell, the 1-3-3 zone defense is a gift. Against the 1-3-3, you can have two handlers work it all the way up the field, because the 1-3-3 almost inevitably yields the 3 yard gainer. If somebody comes in to block that, it has become a 2-3-2 again (for the most part). The 1-3-3 because it is a very loose zone usually poses even fewer problems because you will almost never have an covered dump, so even less reason to panic at a high stall.
